Oleksandr’s journey: From Zhytomyr to finding new opportunities in the UK

Lidumyla with her hosts

In Oleksandr’s own words

"My name is Oleksandr, and I lived in Zhytomyr, Ukraine. I left in October 2023, feeling a deep sense of sadness, not knowing if or when I might return. The journey wasn’t easy, but I’m grateful that I have a high level of English, some savings, and the ability to stay calm in stressful situations, which made the process smoother. My background is diverse – I graduated as a linguist and translator but worked in the animation industry.

I chose the UK because it seemed the most optimal option for me, given the language, opportunities, and future prospects. Since arriving, I’ve been going through all the necessary procedures to settle in. A lot has changed, and not everything is as it was just a few months ago. Soon, I’ll start working, and I’m hopeful about the future.

I believe it’s essential to continue finding new sponsors for displaced Ukrainians. Many have lost their loved ones, homes, and jobs – for some, this is an opportunity to rehabilitate and start fresh."

Your chance to make a difference

Oleksandr’s journey highlights the strength and adaptability of displaced individuals. By becoming a host, you can offer other Ukrainians the opportunity to find safety and rebuild their lives in the UK.

At USPUK, we support not only Ukrainian families on their journey to the UK but also the generous hosts who open their homes to them. From the moment they register on our website throughout their hosting experience, we are here to help.
