Anil's story
Anil Qasemi found himself in a challenging position in 2021, forced to relocate to the UK following the collapse of the Afghan government.
'Life can be very challenging when you suddenly become displaced and a refugee,' he reflects. 'It's an unimaginable hardship - first to be separated from loved ones, adjusting to a new place, cultural differences, homesickness, and confusion about career choices amidst a sea of diverse online information.'
Fortunately, 'having received a quality education back home helped me navigate through these challenges,' he says. 'Additionally, I encountered acts of kindness from numerous individuals and organisations in the UK, from humanitarian groups to former colleagues and friends.'
After a year of working for a recruitment company, Anil transitioned and joined us at USPUK. 'We worked for a few months designing a project to help Afghans who were recently evacuated to assist with their resettlement,' he explains. 'I was lucky to have been offered this role as I could utilise my personal experiences from being in one of these schemes to develop ideas and concepts easily.'
Today, 'life has become easier for me as I enjoy my secured employment and the privilege of assisting other refugees,' Anil states. 'Providing consultations, valuable information, referrals, and serving as a problem-solving hub for those in need brings me great satisfaction.'
'Working alongside my wonderful colleagues from Ukraine, who share similar experiences of displacement, and with our diverse team, I feel optimistic about the future,' he says. 'My goal now is to continue guiding and supporting others, offering them hope and direction in their journey towards a better life in the UK.'
