USPUK Third Anniversary Newsletter - March 2025

Three Years of USPUK

This month marks three years since our organisation was founded, in the immediate aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with one crucial mission in mind: to ensure that those displaced by war do not simply survive, but thrive. Over the past three years, we have kept that mission at the core of everything we do.

What began as a grassroots response to a humanitarian crisis has grown into a national network supporting tens of thousands of displaced Ukrainians and Afghans with sponsorship, integration, and community connection. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

Recent Highlights

Since the beginning of this year, we have received and replied to 450 requests of sponsorship from Ukrainian families, matched around 11 sponsors with Ukrainian guests and continued to support families in their move to the UK.

We have conducted 1-on-1 consultations with over 600 Afghans and Ukrainians seeking support, made over 30 job referrals for members of both communities, and delivered three online employment webinars on finding jobs in the UK (available to access on our YouTube channel).

We are also happy to share that Nadiia, our sponsors coordinator, has moved from Ukraine to the UK with her two children, just as she has helped hundreds of other displaced Ukrainians to do over the last three years.

We are extremely happy that we could support her in her move, thanks to the generosity of her new host family. We all wish Nadiia and her children all the best in this new chapter of their lives!

Testimonial - Afghan Project

Aimal, one of the displaced Afghans in the UK who we have been supporting, recently wrote to thank us and provided a snapshot into our everyday work. Aimal was moving house and faced a number of personal and logistical challenges with which the USPUK team stepped in to help.

USPUK’s Afghan team provided Aimal with assistance in the logistical aspects of his move, supported him in applying for Universal Credit and offered counselling to him and his family. The team utilised their comprehensive knowledge of the relevant procedures and necessary documents to ensure that Aimal and his family’s move went smoothly. Aimal praised USPUK’s consultants for their “unwavering commitment” and “dedication and willingness to go the extra mile”.
