Afghan Resettlement Project (USPUK x More in Common)

USPUK has developed resettlement support for Afghans under the ACRS and ARAP schemes who arrived in the UK after the Taliban takeover. Drawing from our experience resettling Ukrainians, we recognise the crucial nature of building trust with those we support. Employing Afghans for the USPUK project enabled us to swiftly establish strong networks within the community.

In September 2023, in collaboration with More in Common, we utilised these networks to conduct a survey among Afghans still residing in hotels. The aim was to gain a detailed understanding of the barriers preventing them from securing stable and secure accommodation in the UK. The survey, created with and piloted by Afghans, was available in Dari, Pashto, and English, marking the first systematic attempt to listen to the wants and needs of the cohort regarding housing. The survey results guided USPUK's next steps, highlighting information gaps and addressing the significant lack of resettlement information among Afghans. However, our commitment to finding additional ways to support Afghans in rebuilding their lives in the UK remains steadfast.
